BIS3.jpgEstablished in 1990, Bavarian International School (BIS) is situated in a green and peaceful environment in the village of Haimhausen, about 30 kilometers north of Munich. BIS offers a rich and varied curriculum for students in Lower School (early childhood through fifth grade), Middle School (grades 6-8) and Upper School (grades 9-12), encompassing the Primary Years Program (PYP), the International Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) program and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program. Class sizes are limited to 20 in Pre-Reception (age four), and 24 in all other grades.

The school's historical landmark is a 17th century Baroque castle in which Upper School classes are taught and the school's administrative offices are located. The school's other buildings were purpose built and designed for education. State-of-the-art science rooms, two libraries, a performing arts centre, a sports hall and a newly completed outdoor track and football field compliment the existing infrastructure. English is the language of instruction at BIS, with German as a regular subject of instruction starting in first grade. Middle School students take either French or Spanish as a second foreign language. There is also an English as an Additional Language (EAL) Program for pupils needing extra English language support.

The arts are highly valued at BIS, with music, drama and the visual arts included in the curriculum from the early years through eighth grade. A wide selection of extracurricular activities is among the school's offerings. BIS does not charge an application fee. Once a child is accepted, a registration fee of 1500 euros is due. Annual tuition fees range from 10,600 to 14,100 euros. In addition, there is an entrance fee of 10,000 euros, which is paid in installments over a three-year period. Families enrolling three or more children at the school are eligible for a reduction in tuition. BIS also offers an extensive private bus network, allowing for easy transit to and from the school. The current enrolment of 850 students represents over 40 nationalities, with approximately 40 students in each graduating class.
