Lycée Francais Jean Renoir

The Lycée Jean Renoir in Munich was founded in 1953 with the support of the Agence pour l'Enseignement Français à l'Etranger (AEFE) as well as the city of Munich and the State of Bavaria. The school accommodates children aged four to 18 and is divided into two main sections: the Ecole Primaire (preschool, kindergarten and elementary school) and the Collège and Lycée (Gymnasium). The school plans on admitting about 1,300 students in the fall of 2008. While the curriculum is structured around the French education system, German language and German cultural content figure significantly in the classroom. Because the school enjoys official Ersatzschule status (officially recognized private school), students completing their education at the Lycée are awarded the French Baccalauréat as well as a Geman Abitur. English is treated as a foreign language in both sections of the school, and a strong command of the French language is a prerequisite for entry.
