Bayreuth

Bayreuth The birthplace of composer Richard Wagner (also his resting place), Bayreuth may be most noted for its month-long summer arts festival - the Wagner festival - one of the hottest tickets in Germany. This rich musical and artistic culture has produced one of Bavaria's most treasured opera houses, the Festspielhaus. Much of Bayreuth's architectural beauty can be connected to the 18th the century, when parks commissioned by Frederick II of Prussia's sister, Margravine Wilhelmine, first dotted the city, making this one of Bavaria's greener spaces. The 75,000 residents of Bayreuth enjoy the prominence of their uni-versity research, particularly their medical clinics. The city is situated on the A9 Autobahn only 80 kilometers from Nuremberg.
