Zeiss The World of Optics

Two companies from the optical industry are located under one roof at a plant in Wetzlar: Carl Zeiss Sports Optics GmbH and Carl Zeiss SMT GmbH, both subsidiaries of the Carl Zeiss Group. In 1849 Moritz Hensoldt and Carl Kellner laid the foundations for the optical industry in Wetzlar. Today both companies manufacture optical systems for different companies.

Carl Zeiss Sports Optics GmbH

With its high-quality and precision binoculars, riflescopes and spotting scopes, Carl Zeiss Sports Optics GmbH is a clear technology leader in this market. Sports Optics supplies products for hunting, nature observation or for use on trips, for sports or oher events in the lifestyle sector. The high standard of quality gives hunters an assurance in any hunting situation. The aim is to enthuse people and help them experience the world more clearly and intensively with the products. Around 400 employees work in Wetzlar to make this vision become reality. A sales company in the USA and a plant in Hungary make Sports Optics an international company. The company pays particular attention to the development of its employees. The ZEISS Training Academy helps employees, learn about the vast array of products from the whole company.

Carl Zeiss SMT GmbH

Carl Zeiss SMT GmbH forms the ZEISS Semiconductor Manufacturing Technology Division and covers various key processes in the manufacture of microchips with its wideranging product portfolio. As a developer and manufacturer of semiconductor production equipment, the company is a market and technology leader. For example, a large proportion of all microchips worldwide are manufactured using Zeiss technologies. Anyone using a mobile phone, taking a photo with a digital camera or sending an E-Mail via their laptop is also likely to come into contact with Zeiss. Carl Zeiss SMT GmbH is continually pushing the technological limits for nanoelectronics of the future and is now turning visions that were still previously regarded as impossible into a reality. The company employs approximately 2,900 people, 200 of which work in Wetzlar. Scientists and representatives from technical professions. They all have one thing in common: a passion for new technologies and the aim to change the world with their work.

Our Featured Event

The 2019 Newcomers Festival will be held on Sunday 8 Sept. at Frankfurt’s City Hall (Römer). This annual event attracts over 5,000 international visitors, up to 60 exhibitors (companies, clubs, organizations).
