Crawford thanks cops for nabbing blackmailer
Los Angeles (dpa) - Former supermodel and actress Cindy Crawford on Wednesday thanked US and German authorities for nabbing a blackmailer who threatened to sell pictures of her child on the internet.
The 26-year-old German, Edis Kayalar, was sentenced on Tuesday to two years′ prison after admitting that he had used a photo of Crawford′s daughter to extort money from the fashion icon after he was deported from the US to Germany last year.
The photo shows Crawford′s daughter at the age of seven, posing bound and gagged on a chair.
The man had threatened to sell the picture to the press if Crawford did not meet his demand of 100,000 euros (137,000 dollars).
"We want to express our gratitude to the FBI, the US District Attorney′s Office in Los Angeles and the German law-enforcement authorities for their coordination and efforts in this case," said Crawford and her husband, Rande Gerber, in a statement. dpa ag aw
