Tucked away down an alleyway behind Freßgasse but really only accessible from Börsenstr. Mephisto is a wicked place. It's downstairs in a very gothic cellar and the devil is very much the theme with high-backed chairs and dark candle-lit alcoves everywhere. They have many beers to choose from and even serve 1- and 2-litre Mass or even a meter-long wooden plank with 10 glasses of tasty Kölsch. The Food menu is simple, pizza, and sandwiches etc, but the bar staff do like to join in on a round of shots with you and perhaps get a round or two themselves. Early on in the piece I thought I had gone in a time warp back to the 80's with the music resembling the soundtrack to Grand Theft Auto, but later on their was some folk and even some hard rock and everything was in good taste. A Really great place. Saturdays they have a karaoke night aimed at students. Table reservations for five or more people receive a free bottle of Sekt. Happy hour is between 5:30 & 9:00pm. |
