One of the best places to experience traditional Frankfurter hospitality is Adolf Wagner. Wagner has been family owned since 1931 and is one of the most famous Apflewein houses. Naturally, the house Apfelwein (or more correctly titled 'Ebbelwei') served out of a Bembel is a must, but it is important to note here, that there no beer is available. The menu offers many traditional German favourites and many with a touch of Frankfurt, such as the 'Schnitzel Frankfurt-style with "Grüner Sauce", served with home-fried potatoes'. However despite this and other Frankfurt dishes such as the infamous 'Hand Käse mit Musik' (which certainly lives up to it's name), one would find it hard to pass up on the 'Grilled Schweinshaxe' which is perhaps the best outside of Bavaria, but an after-dinner shot of Jägermeister to help digestion is highly recommended. With an undercover heated garden area and courtyard, Wagner is filled to capacity in all seasons, so prior reservations are a must.
