Anna-Schmidt-Schule, considered one of the top schools in Frankfurt, maintains a link with the German public school system and is a private, state-registered, self-organized school. The school is based on the Montessori education system and stresses an understanding of international relations. As a UNESCO project school, it is one of 6,000 member schools in 160 nations that have dedicated their work to the promotion of international understanding and cooperation. Children in the first through fourth grades are given the choice between the traditional German primary school and a Montessori primary school. Pupils from both primary schools continue on to the eight-year secondary school, following the German curriculum, from the fifth to 12th grade. Upon successfully completing the 12th grade, students are awarded the German secondary matriculation certificate (Abitur) and many graduates proceed to universities or colleges worldwide. The school offers a wide scope of day care till 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 5 p.m.
