In recent years many German secondary schools, or Gymnasiums, have widened their curricular offerings to include advanced-level core classes in the English language. Many of these English language courses are part of a learning track which leads to an International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma and/or the German school-leaving certificate, or Abitur. The chief advantage to enrolling your child in the German school system is financial; German public schools are state-funded and do not charge tuition. At the same time, however, it is imperative that any child attending a secondary public school in Germany has a strong command of the German language. What follows is a list of German Gymnasiums (grades 5-12) in the Rhine-Ruhr region which offer the IB diploma program in English.
