Founded more than 46 years ago, the International School of Düsseldorf (ISD) is serving the needs of more than 1,060 students from 50 countries. ISD's campus is located in the suburban community of Kaiserswerth, just north of Düsseldorf city. The school focuses on continuous evaluation and review, as well as mentoring and parental involvement, to encourage both local and international students to develop holistically.
The early childhood center houses four-year-olds and provides a full-day program. Children are encouraged to explore and succeed in a broad range of classroom activities. The elementary school (preparatory to grade 5) offers an educational program designed to foster a love of learning at an early age. The senior school academic program (grades 6-12) is broadly based, but is also rigorous, challenging and stimulating.
A 400-seat theater supports an extensive visual and performing arts program, while two gymnasiums and three football fields serve a comprehensive physical education and competitive sports program. School teams regularly compete, both locally and internationally. The rigorous academic program is complemented by an extensive counseling and pastoral care program, as well as by EAL (English as an Additional Language) and other learning support. Over 98 % of graduating students gain admission to universities. ISD carries full accreditation through CIS and NEASC.
