Japanese Internation School

The Japanese International School in Düsseldorf (JISD) is a nonprofit organization accredited by the Japanese Minister of Cultural Affairs. Since its establishment in 1971, the school has been a private, tuition-charging institution. JISD offers the Japanese National Curriculum for grades 1-9. The school year is spread over three terms; it begins in April and runs until March. German and English are taught as foreign languages. Unique to the school are the English conversation courses that it offers. The typical school day begins at 8:25 am and ends at 4:00 pm, with clubs and extra-curricular activities lasting into the early evening. In December, students in grade 9 prepare for the entry test to upper-level Japanese schools either in Japan or abroad.
